Will Kempton’s long and esteemed career in California’s transportation sector was honored this month at the California Transportation Foundation’s 34th annual Transportation Awards Ceremony

Kempton, who over the course of his career served as director of Caltrans, in addition to a host of other top posts, was awarded the Heinz Heckeroth Lifetime Achievement Award “for his many contributions and dedicated service to the transportation industry.” He is the first recipient of this award.

“I have been blessed with a very meaningful career and had the chance to work with some great people on some incredible projects over the last five decades, and it is very rewarding to be recognized by my peers and the California Transportation Foundation through this award,” Kempton told InfraTalk America.

The award is named after former Caltrans Chief Deputy Director Heinz Heckeroth, who founded CTF in 1988.

Kempton is currently a strategic advisor with Kempton Strategies. In addition to heading Caltrans, he served as CEO of the Orange County Transportation Authority and Executive Director of the California Transportation Commission. He is also an advisor to Infrastructure Ventures, the parent company of InfraTalk America.

The California Transportation Foundation’s mission is to recognize the best and brightest in the industry as well as remember those who have given all in service.
